Grays Athletic 0-2 Bognor Regis Town

From Mill Field

Ryman Premier League

GRAYS Athletic’s fine unbeaten start to the season was brought to an abrupt end by Bognor Regis Town.

Bognor won 2-0, thanks to a goal in each half, and they were deserved winners in a match that wasn’t without controversy.

Blues were sitting pretty at the top of the standings ahead of the game with the only unbeaten record in the division.

But this was one of their stiffest tests to date, with Bognor themselves only six points off top spot.

Grays were boosted by the return of division top scorer Dumebi Dumaka, from a one-match suspension, and he was looking likely early on.

Indeed his effort narrowly over the crossbar was one of few bright moments in a tight first half.

The point of contention came on the half-time whistle, as Jay Leader committed a foul in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot.

Leader was dismissed to the home fans frustration, with there arguably being enough cover to warrant just a yellow card. Jason Prior stepped up and blasted home.

Both sides exchanges chances after the interval but it was Alfie Rutherford that made sure of the result as he netted number two with just 15 minutes to go.
