Grays Athletic 5-0 Bigglewade United

From Mill Field

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round

GRAYS Athletic romped into the next round of the FA Cup after a five-star showing against Biggleswade United.

However, four of the five goals came in the last 16 minutes giving the score line a somewhat flattering complexion.

Joao Carlos netted a brace late on, while goals from Sean Cronin, Roman Michael-Percil and an own goal completed the scoring.

Grays were strong favourites against the side who played two tiers below them in the Spartan South Midlands Premier League.

And Grays started well, breaking the deadlock after 15 minutes, Michael-Percil crashing home from the edge of the penalty area.

But Joachim Martos in the away goal was keeping Biggleswade in it. He made an excellent double save before United forced Lamar Johnson into a good stop between the Grays posts.

Grays continued to press forward but they didn’t get their rewards until 77 minutes.

A cross was fizzed in and Alexander Stadnyk could only prod past his own goalkeeper. Centre-back Sean Cronin headed in off the far post to make it 3-0 three minutes later.

Joao Carlos made it 4-0 with a terrific finish past Martos only seconds later, while the same man ended the scoring in the dying embers as Grays eased through.
