Leiston 1-2 Grays Athletic

From Victory Road

Ryman Premier League

GRAYS Athletic’s unbeaten run continued with arguably their finest win of the season so far away at Leiston.

Both sides were locked on 17 points ahead of the clash, with both strongly fancied to push up the league and challenge for the title this year.

And this result will only reinforce that. Blues were indebted to a double from Dumebi Dumaka, his second double in consecutive games, taking his tally up to eight goals in just seven matches so far this term.

And the opening came after just seven minutes. The ball was lost in midfield by Leiston and picked up Dumaka. The rangy striker bore down on goal with support either side but he needed neither, as he guided a low shot inside the near post.

A shell-shocked Leiston responded well, aiming to preserve their own unbeaten start to the campaign, but they were unable to break down Blues, with Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson sending a header inches wide.

But moments before half-time, Leiston levelled through Tom Bullard, whose header had the beating of Johnson from a tight angle.

The second-half was a tight affair with both sides having golden chances to take the win. Sean Cronin made a remarkable goal line clearance with the goal gaping up one end before Joao Carlos shot into the side netting at the other end.

But it was Grays who had the last laugh.

A wicked cross from Jey Siva was nicked in by Dumaka with just seconds to go.
