GRAYS Athletic have confirmed they will play their home matches at Aveley's Mill Field ground next season.

Blues, who have been playing at their rivals ground since the start of the 2013/14 campaign, made the announcement at Saturday's supporters meeting.

Andy Swallow, the club's owner spoke to fans following the news that plans to build 501 homes in Aveley would not be going ahead.

The applicant Westview Properties Ltd, which is run by Grays' former owner Mick Woodward, had promised to build a new £800,000 sports centre at Treetops School, in Grays, and new sports pitches at Belhus Park, in Aveley, as part of the agreement.

And Grays had hoped to profit from the agreement, however Swallow confirmed "talks were ongoing" regarding a new home in the town following the blow.

Regarding the continued stadium share, Swallow said: "We would very like to thank everyone involved at Aveley FC for their kindness and generosity but we especially would like to thank Craig Johnson (club secretary)."
