NON LEAGUE: BLUES gained a valuable point from their encounter with Wealdstone on Saturday.

Andy Swallows’ men ryuined Stones’ Ryman Premier League title party.

And they came close to winning the match themselves. Grays got off to a good start with Chris Benjamin’s effort coming close had the Stones keeper Jonathan North not been opn top form. But there was plenty of action at the other end too.

And Athletic’s George Kamarusi was called into action when he was tested by Wes Parker’s efort.

But he managed to get his fingertips to the ball and tip the shot over the bar. Other wealdstone shots followed with Scott McCubbin coming close to giving the visitors the lead. But the first goal did not come until the second half when Grays, finally, found the target despite wearlier efforts by Jordan Wilson.

Blues went ahead in the 73rd minute.

Benjamin – who had earlier been instrumental in several ghalf chances – slotted the ball through to Wilson who found the back of the net. But the home bench were to be frustrated.

Wealdstone’s late fightback was ferocious and ended when Glen Little slotted through to Scott McGleish.

And McGleish slammed the ball into the back of the net with less than three minutes on the clock.
