GOAL king Luke Callander has turned down the opportunity to go to Grays Athletic. He does not wish to leave his current club Heybridge Swifts. Callander, the top scorer in the Ryman League last season, had the chance to “double his money” at Grays Athletic.
Heybridge boss Mark Hawkes praised his striker for his loyalty.
“Luke’s a loyal person. Year after year he was loyal to Stanway Rovers and now he’s showing that same loyalty to Heybridge. “He’s always been true to his word and he’s not motivated by money.
“He could have doubled his money by joining Grays.
“But he wants to be at the club where he most feels he can be successful, “ he added. Callander and fellow striker Michael Cheek scored two goals apiece in Saturday’s 7-2 rout against Wroxham. It took Swifts’ tally to a dozen goals in two games, following on from last Tuesday’s 5-0 win at Brentwood.
Their recent run during an unbeaten November has propelled them to second in Ryman One North.
