Cheshunt 4 East Thurrock United 2 Although they have long since clinched a place in the play-offs, this defeat in an entertaining clash at Cheshunt could have dire consequences for John Coventry’s Rocks.

For, they now stand in the fifth and final play-off spot which, as things stand, would mean them starting their challenge for a rise to the Premier with a tough game at second-placed Concord Rangers.

They could still finish fourth, but only by beating Waltham Forest at home next Saturday and third-placed Wingate and Finchley overcoming an Enfield Town side currently fourth.

A combination of those results would leave Rocks above Enfield on goal difference and starting the play-offs at Wingate and Finchley.

Chris Meikle’s hat-trick saw Cheshunt to success here after the division’s top scorer Sam Higgins had opened the scoring for Rocks.

Bradley Harrison got the host side’s other goal and Louis Collins was on target for the visitors from Kris Newby’s cross.
