Maldon 1, East Thurrock United 2 This third win in eight days confirmed that Rocks are over the blip which threatened their place in the end-of-season play-off fight.

They went to in-form Essex rivals Maldon and eventually took all three points thanks to a late winner from Sam Berry, who scored with a fine header to ensure rich pickings for John Coventry’s visitors.

Rocks had taken a seventh-minute lead when a long throw from Ryan Sammons was headed on by top scorer Sam Higgins for Louis Collins to convert at the far post.

Maldon went close on 27 minutes when Liam White scooped a free-kick from James Abbott wide, but got on terms through Benson Packa’s 35th-minute volley.

Rocks pushed hard for the winner and took the three points when Berry headed home a free-kick.

Rocks enjoy a midweek break before bidding to improve on their current fourth place position at home to Potters Bar Town next Saturday.
