EAST Thurrock United will travel to Harlow Town for an FA Cup third qualifying round replay after being made to settle for a 2-2 draw at the FutureFuel Stadium.

Sam Higgins bagged a brace but missed a late penalty against the Hawks, who finished the tie with 10 men.

And Rocks boss John Coventry was disappointed with his side.

Coventry said: “I am not only disappointed with the result but also the performance.

“We would like to think that we will put in a much-improved performance in the replay.

“We were really poor and I will be looking for a reaction.”

The hosts took the lead inside 18 minutes as Lewis Smith put Higgins through on goal and the striker rounded Harlow Town goalkeeper Ben McNamara before slotting the ball into the unguarded net.

But two goals in four first half minutes turned the game on its head.

Rocks failed to clear a Junior Dadson cross and Alex Read lashed the ball into the roof of the net to level matters on the half hour mark.

And East Thurrock fell behind moments later as Lukas Lidakevicius could only parry a Craig Pope cross before Xavier Vidal smashed the ball home.

But Rocks hit back from the penalty spot after 66 minutes.

Pope, who was shown a second yellow card, gave away the spot kick and Higgins converted.

East Thurrock were eager to make their one-man advantage count and they were gifted an opportunity to take the lead 13 minutes before full time.

The home side were awarded a second penalty, with Higgins stepping up in a bid to complete his hat-trick.

But McNamara pulled off a strong save to deny the Rocks captain.

Coventry’s charges continued to attack in search of a winner, but another goal was not forthcoming as the 10 men of Harlow Town held firm.

East Thurrock will travel to the home of the Isthmian Premier League side for the replay on Tuesday.
