EAST Thurrock United won the mid-table battle with Bath City to end a run of three straight defeats.

Goals from Sam Higgins and Reece Harris in the first-half proved enough for John Coventry’s men, as they look to secure a top half finish come the end of the season.

Rocks took the lead in the 27th minute following a fantastic team move.

Captain Higgins completed it, crashing home from close range after excellent contributions in the build up from Lee Burns and George Craddock, culminating with a perfectly placed cross by Tom Wraight to gift Higgins the finish.

Higgins went from finisher to provider moments later.

The striker lofted the ball into the box and, although just over Wraight's head, Harris read the ball well and finished with a first time strike into the bottom corner.

Bath midfielder Billy Murphy had a good chance to get one back before the break, as he ran through the centre of the field before striking from the edge of the box, but his effort was dragged wide of the post.

Higgins had three chances in the first 10 minutes of the second-half, but failed to make them count.

The best of these came after he got in behind the defence, but his effort cannoned off the post and goalkeeper, before going out for a corner.

Bath had several decent opportunities to get a consolation, but were denied both times by diving saves from Rocks stopper Lukas Lidakevicius.
