EAST Thurrock United manager John Coventry believes securing their league status will allow his team to express themselves more effectively after they made history this week.
Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Tilbury ensured Rocks will play in their first ever Senior Cup final, as Sam Higgins’ brace and a goal from Reece Harris saw off their Thurrock neighbours.
But Coventry now wants his charges to ensure their National League South position, with nine more points cited as the amount needed to stay up.
“We had one aim at the start of the season and that was to make sure we were in the National League South next season,” he said. “If we can achieve that by the time the final is due that would be great.
“Maybe that would allow us to enjoy or express ourselves in another way. But we will see where we are.
“It is nice for not just the players but everyone associated with the club. I think that is the first thing I am thinking of.
“It will be a good occasion.”
