EAST Thurrock United were well beaten by Hungerford Town as their inconsistent 2017 form continued.
Rocks were beaten 3-0 in Berkshire, with the home side deserved winners in the end.
Both teams had won in midweek, with both keen on boosting their play-off hopes with victory.
Hungerford looked bright out of the blocks, although the best chance of the first 10 minutes was East Thurrock’s. A trademark free-kick from Tom Wraight was well pushed aside to keep it goalless.
The hosts saw another shot blocked but, 10 minutes later, they were ahead.
The ball made its way to Soares at the far post and he struck beyond Lukas Lidakevicius.
Sam Higgins was booked late on for a high foot, in what was a frustrating afternoon for the striker.
He volleyed wide while, up the other end, Stefan Brown unleashed a fierce effort which hit the crossbar.
Marvin Ekpiteta, making his debut for Rocks after moving from Concord Rangers, made a goal-saving challenge soon after, Hungerford hit the bar twice more, with Lidakevicius by far the busier goalkeeper.
But Brown did get the goal he deserved 15 minutes from time, tapping in after good work in a wide position.
Rhys Tyler made it 3-0 two minutes from time to complete an impressive afternoon’s work.
East Thurrock United: Lidakevicius, Salami, Osifuwa (Walker), Wood, Ekpiteta, Craddock, Gardner (Honesty), Marlow, Higgins, Harris, Wraight
