EAST Thurrock United kept up the pace at the top end of the Ryman Premier League as they came from behind to get the better of Wingate & Finchley.

Rocks won 3-1, thanks to a brace from Sam Higgins and a 20th goal of the season for Tom Wraight.

East Thurrock had taken six points over the Bank Holiday weekend, with manager John Coventry acknowledging a win at Wingate wasn’t vital as far as their play-off ambitions went.

It was important if they wanted to prolong their outside chances of winning the league. Wingate had little to play for but league position but it was the hosts that opened the deadlock.

With 30 minutes on the clock Leon Fisher hit home the first goal of the afternoon to the frustration of Coventry, but the away side pulled level shortly before the break.

Higgins hit home his 42nd strike of another terrific season before the same man turned the score 20 minutes into the second half.

Higgins scored from the penalty spot before Wraight, fresh from his late goal in the reverse fixture, made it 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining and wrap up the points.
