EAST Thurrock United’s flying winger Tom Wraight says even he is surprised at how well this season is going for him.

The 21-year-old scored his 17th goal of the season in Monday’s 3-0 win at Farnborough, having also netted in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Dulwich Hamlet.

The former Witham Town attacker is targeting his third goal in as many matches when Tonbridge Angels pay a visit to Rookery Hill tomorrow, despite starting the season at left-back.

Wraight has been something of a revelation since moving to the club last year, having been involved in an unsuccessful relegation battle at Witham Town last season.

And he is keen finish at the top this season, and help Rocks to promotion.

“I have been quite surprised at how well I have done,” said Wraight. “To get 17 goals already is great and hopefully I can push on. I don’t set myself targets but we are all aiming to keep playing the same way we have been in recent months.

“I started the season at left-back and moving forward has really opened up my game. I have more freedom to get in attacking positions and I am pleased I have been able to get the goals to help the team.

“We have got some big teams out of the way already which is positive but most teams are still fighting for something and that means no game will be easy.”

And Wraight is taking nothing for granted tomorrow.

“I am really happy with how things are going at the moment,” said Wraight, who has played 48 times this season. “Tomorrow promises to be a really hard match but if we can get the points in that one it will set us up well for the final few weeks. ”
