EAST Thurrock United goal machine Sam Higgins says he is proud to have reached 200 goals for the club.

Higgins’ goals have propelled Rocks to the top of the Ryman Premier League table.

He got his 200th last week in a 4-2 win over Met Police and although he and his team-mates were frustrated by Bognor Regis at the weekend, Higgins wants to keep on scoring to give Rocks the best chance of promotion.

Higgins, 25, who netted his 200th goal in his 232nd game, said: “It is a great feeling to have got that goal and reached 200.

“I have known about it for a little while so it is nice to reach it and now I can aim to score a few more.

“I have been on a good run in recent weeks and I feel good, although I can’t take all the credit as the team has been playing really well.

“If I had to pick a best one, or one that stood out it would be the volley against Leiston earlier in the season. It was an important goal for the team, and they all count.”

Higgins has scored 35 goals in 31 appearances so far this term, after missing several months last year because of injury.

He hopes he is past that now – although he will be wearing a fibreglass cast for the next few weeks after breaking his hand against Canvey Island.

“I had a difficult start to the season with injuries so getting back in the team and staying there was really important, although I did get an injury against Canvey,” he said.

“When I went down in the challenge with the Canvey defender I hurt my hand and apparently I broke it, although I didn’t know at the time.

“I played in a cast against Met Police and that worked so I am confident I will be able to keep playing with it on.”
