THE PREVIEW: East Thurrock have won their last three matches 4-1 and come into this game as favourites, against an Enfield side which does not travel well and has a wretched record against John Coventry’s men.

While Enfield are a force to be reckoned with at home, they have won just three of their 10 away games, including a late win at Lewes on Tuesday, and face the division’s top scorers.

They are also yet to win in 17 senior games against the Rocks, although Coventry admits the Christmas period can throw up unexpected results.

Sam Higgins scored his 20th goal of the season against Kingstonian, and East Thurrock are likely to welcome back 18-goal Lewis Smith back into the starting line-up, after he recovered from illness.

WHAT HE SAYS: Rocks manager John Coventry said: “Enfield got a win on Tuesday so they might come to us in a better frame of mind but I am not looking too much into that.

“I understand the conditions down at Lewes on Tuesday were poor as well although it would be nice if the rain stayed away.

“It is the wind that is the main problem as it turns games into a farce. But we are taking Enfield seriously as a win would bring them into the play-off pack.

“I see it as a good chance to pull away from teams like this and drag ourselves closer to those at the very top of the table.

“Being the jolly Father Christmas type chap that I am, I have given the players training off tonight and next Thursday so they can enjoy Christmas and New Year but they know what I expect from them and I know they will be sensible.”
