The preview: Rocks took a pounding against Staines Town in the FA Cup on Saturday. However, they are hoping for a repeat performance against high-flying Leiston having beaten the Suffolk outfit 4-0 only a fortnight ago.

That is just one of two defeats suffered by Leiston so far this season and they have been in fine fettle on home turf, although they too went out of the FA Cup on Saturday – losing 3-1 to National League North side Gloucester City.

They have won six of their seven home matches, and only Rocks’ rivals Grays have come away with a positive result – winning 201 at the start of September.

What he said: East Thurrock manager John Coventry said: “We had a long discussion after the game on Saturday as there was some frustration. We knew exactly what Staines would do and how we were going to combat their strengths and the team didn’t take any notice.

“Staines had already beaten us in the league ahead of the FA Cup game so they knew they could beat us again and that is the mentality I want heading to Leiston. We know it will be a hard game and I would be pleased with a point but we need the belief that we can win again.”

“I will make changes but I am not sure what they will be just yet.”

Team news: Rickie Hayles serves the final match of his six-match suspension. Coventry has also added 26-year-old midfielder Daryl Robson to his squad from Brentwood Town. Robson was the captain of Middlesbrough’s FA Youth Cup side that reached the final in 2003.
