FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

EAST Thurrock eased into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup with a five star win against Carshalton Athletic.

Rocks made the first round last season, and were looking to do so again for the third time in five years.

And they made short work of the side from the Ryman One South. First-half strikes from Lewis Smith, Sam Higgins and Mitchell Gilbey put them in charge at the break.

Harry Honesty added a fourth midway through the second-half but it was plain sailing for the visitors, with James Walker adding a fifth to complete the rout.

John Coventry’s men could have taken the lead before the deadlock was broken, with home goalkeeper Matt Willard keeping out the on-form Higgins.

Lee Hall tested Lukas Lidakevicius as Carshalton bit back but Higgins exchanged passes in the area to crash home in impressive style and double the lead.

Gilbey made it 3-0 before the interval, as he slid a long-range effort inside the far post with Willard seemingly believing the ball was going wide of the upright.

Kingsley Aikhionbare brought a decent save out of Lidakevicius, but it was Willard who was making a fine impression in the other net in a man of the match performance.

Honesty scored number four with Walker notching his first for his new club with five minutes remaining.
