EAST Thurrock United fell to their first defeat of the season against Hampton & Richmond Borough on a disappointing afternoon in Middlesex.
Rocks had a win and a draw to show from their first two games, and their manager John Coventry had called on his side to show a better attitude heading into the game.
And they got off to a flying start as Sam Higgins, back from injury, netted his second goal of the season after only two minutes.
East Thurrock were knocking the ball around well in the opening stages, only for themselves to concede midway through the half.
Richard Pacquette flicked on for the run of Nicke Kabamba, who took a touch and beat the away stopper Lukas Lidakevicius with ease.
But Hampton weren’t finished, and it was their right-back who scored what proved to be the decisive goal.
A deflected free-kick fell into his path and he netted to give Hampton their first win of the season.
East Thurrock pushed in search of the equaliser after the break but couldn’t find a way past the home custodian, with Kris Newby’s red card the most notable action of the second period.
East Thurrock United: Lidakevicius, Newby, Knott (Honesty), Scott, Hayles, Craddock, Gilbey (Sammons), Wraight, Higgins, Bryant, Smith (Anderson)
