JOHN Coventry says East Thurrock United’s draw at Hendon on Monday night was “a great point”.

The Rocks manager watched Kye Ruel, inset, give his side the lead, only for a goal on the half-hour mark to peg them back.

Paul Goodacre, Lewis Smith and David Bryant missed the match for the visitors through injury, with Coventry naming youngster Alfie Vinton among the substitutes.

And Coventry says his side are now well placed to challenge for the play-offs in the final months of the season.

“It was a great result for us,” he said. “We only had 12 fit first-team players so to go to another side in the play-offs and get a point is brilliant.

“It is a good point for them considering they had two games in hand on us, but it is also good for us considering our circumstances. I was on the phone for five hours trying to get players in but there was no-one available. But the mentality in this group is right and we will keep fighting,”
