RYMAN PREMIER: East Thurrock United striker David Bryant says the unpredictability of the Ryman Premier Division will make the final months of the season all the more exciting to watch.

Bryant, 32, has been an integral part of John Coventry’s squad since he signed midway through the 2012/13 season, helping them to a play-off finish.

And despite back-to-back losses against Kingstonian and Lewes in the league, having suffered only one defeat between the end of September and the middle of January, Bryant is confident the team will be firing on all cylinders come tomorrow’s game against VCD Athletic.

“It is going well at the moment,” said Bryant. “We have done well but this is the sort of league where any team can lose to the next one so there is no shame in losing to Lewes and Kingstonian. You see results every week that surprise you and both those teams played well against us.

“I joined when we were 17th in the league and we ended up that season in the play-offs which goes to show you never know what you will get in this league. Even Margate and Maidstone have been dropping points at the top.”

Rocks sit seventh in the division after their impressive recent run and Bryant, a former Conference South player, says the team is ready to keep pushing until the end of term.

“All games are important. When you are fighting at the top you need the points and we have got a lot of them since September.

“If someone had told us then where we would be now we would have taken it.

“But we want to finish in the play-offs and we believe we can get there. The mood in the camp is positive but I don’t think you can have a manager like Covo and not be positive.”

Bryant says he wants to add to his tally of seven goals this season, and is targeting a few more although jokes 31-goal Sam Higgins could fire them to promotion on his own.

“I want to score a few more goals but we have a small squad and I have played in a few different positions this season,” he said.

“Higgo will do it on his own! He is a fantastic footballer and it is great that a player of such quality is playing for us.

“But everyone at East Thurrock makes us feel comfortable and it feels like home.”
