East Thurrock United 4-2 Hungerford Town
from Rookery Hill
FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round
EAST Thurrock United are into the second qualifying round for the FA Cup after an impressive 4-2 win over Hungerford Town.
Rocks had record goalscorer Sam Higgins to thank as he netted all four goals in the triumph at Rookery Hill, including a 12 minute hat-trick at the end of the first half.
Higgins now has 12 goals since returning to Rocks at the end of the August, and he put the 7th placed Southern Premier League side to the sword yesterday night.
After a 1-1 draw on Saturday, John Coventry named his strongest 11 despite Saturday’s FA Cup 1st Round tie with Hartlepool United.
And Higgins netted his first from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark, sending the keeper the wrong way.
He scored his second soon after before squeezing his third under the despairing dive of the goalkeeper.
His fourth came about after he pounced on a loose clearance, before exchanging passes and shooting under the goalkeeper.
At 4-0 Hungerford showed some fight and grabbed two late goals, scored by James Clark and Mark Draycott.
Rocks will now host Arlesey Town in the second qualifying round. They play in the same league as Hungerford although find themselves in 21st position.
