Millers take point from champions
9:57am Monday 19th April 2010 in Ryman Premier Division
Dartford 2 Aveley 2 THE Millers remain on course for a place in the play-offs following this battling point at champions Dartford.
In their first season in the top flight they have always maintained that their number one ambition was to get to 50 points to ensure maintaining their Premier status.
As it happens, they would have needed a lot less than that to stay up, but now they are looking, with three games to go, a good bet for a place in the end of season promotion fight.
At Darts they fell behind to a 10th-minute Rob Howarth header, but got back on terms when a long range free-kick from ex-Canvey man Ryan Edgar gave home keeper Andy Young no chance.
Lee Burns fired the hosts back in front after 37 minutes, but Millers were not to be denied in keeping their amazing late run going and grabbed a point after 84 minutes. Top scorer Martin Tuohy battled to gain possession on the right and crossed for Sherwin Stanley to head home the equaliser.
Currently filling the final play-off spot, Aveley continue their punishing finishing schedule with three games in five days from tomorrow night when they visit Billericay Town.
They then go to Horsham on Thursday in a match being played at Crawley Town’s Blue Square Premier ground before hosting fellow play-off rivals Tonbridge Angels next Saturday.
