Third defeat in a week for Aveley
8:57am Monday 1st February 2010 in Ryman Premier Division
Sutton United 3, Aveley 2 THE Millers’ third defeat in a week, this time at a Sutton side now just one place off the play-offs, leaves them just two points away from the drop zone.
Aveley took the lead here in front of a 446-strong crowd when Nicky Symonds scored with a speculative effort on 10 minutes.
But the Surrey hosts levelled when, following a strong tackle by Karim El-Salahi, Charlie Taylor broke clear to skip past goalkeeper Ollie Morris-San-ders to score five minutes later.
And Sutton were in front after 18 minutes when a mis-kick from Morris-Sanders allowed James Norwood to tap into an empty net.
Aveley missed out when David Knight dragged the ball wide when well-placed and paid the price when Francis Quarm played a one-two with Taylor and shot home at the second attempt.
The visitors got back in the game when Knight shot home from Sherwin Stanley’s driven cross. But it was Sutton who came closest from that point when a Norwood effort rattled the bar.
Aveley host fellow Premier side AFC Hornchurch tonight in the third round of the League Cup.
