Aveley's unbeaten run is ended
Edgware Town 3, Aveley 2
MILLERS' 14 match unbeaten run came to an end at Ryman Division One North promotion-chasing Edgware on Saturday.
In a thrilling match the Wares led twice though Greg Ngoyi and Fergus Moore but Rod Stringer's men hit back on both occasions through Christian Wheeler and then Kye Ruel in the last minute before Stuart Blackburne won it for Edgware three minutes into injury-time.
The late winner was all the more galling for Aveley who had battled bravely with ten men after Leli Bajada picked up his second yellow with 15 minutes remaining.
The visitors had the first shot at goal when Bradly Barnes' corner was skied over Rob Blackburne's goal by Glen Golby.
However, it didn't take the Wares long to get into their stride. Adil Salih lofted the ball in to Greg Ngoyi who headed wide seven minutes in and a couple of minutes later a run at goal by Denis Maharajan was only thwarted on the edge of the area by some last ditch defending.
Edgware went on to have further chances but it was Millers who scored first when Barnes combined with Wayne Vaughan down the left to win a corner from which Wheeler scored, heading past Blackburne on the quarter hour.
Edgware were straight back on the counter and Maharajan's volley from 20 yards hit the crossbar. On 18 minutes they drew level when Hart who picked out Ngoyi whose turn fooled substitute Ryan Doyle and his blistering shot hit the back of the net.
Ngoyi almost repeated the goal on 25 minutes but was foiled by quick reaction save from Adam Rafis who palmed the ball onto the bar and over.
The second half saw more of the same with the Wares having long periods of possession and occasional forays forward by the visitors.
Edgware's second goal came on 66 when Fergus Moore turned the ball in at the far post. At the other end Sam Holloway had the best chance to put the visitors level again but he missed Nicky Whettner's cross at the far post when clear in on goal.
The visitors' frustration took its toll on 75 minutes when Bajada had his shirt pulled but he reacted by pushing Michael McKay to the ground, as he had already been booked he received a second yellow and was sent off.
Despite the dismissal Aveley kept plugging away and Ruel made a great run through Wares' back line to level the scores on 90 minutes.
However, Millers were denied a share of the points when Morton headed on a corner three minutes into added time and substitute Stuart Blackburne fired past Rafis to clinch a home victory.
