Aveley FC on top again in clash with Horsham
5:55pm Monday 14th December 2009 in News
THE Millers, in their first term back in the top flight, are standing 12th and on the verge of re-entering the top half of the table.
The hosts took a third-minute lead with Mitch Hahn firing home from 25 yards.
Aveley could have increased their lead, but Martin Tuohy twice missed out and ex-Canvey man Ryan Edgar, who was the man of the match, put a long-range free-kick just over.
Steve Sargent went close for the in-form visitors and the Sussex side got on terms on 29 minutes when Pat Harding's shot hit a post and went in via goalkeeper Ollie Morris-Sanders.
The home keeper was back in action soon after when he turned an angled effort from Alex Haddow away for a corner.
But, as so often, it was Miller’s strike star Tuohy who settled the issue.
The vital goal came after 37 minutes when Sherwin Stanley’s shot was saved by visiting stopper Craig Bradshaw but Tuohy was on hand to shoot home the winner from 12 yards.
Junior Dadson and Ryan Doyle might have added to the Aveley tally, but home fans in the 127 crowd were just delighted to see their side take the points.
