AVELEY'S struggles near the foot of the Isthmian North continued as former manager Justin Gardner enjoyed a winning return with Barking.
A second half goal from Kiernan Hughes-Mason was enough for Barking, as a new-look Aveley side struggled in the final 45 minutes.
Alex Teniola had a golden chance to put the Millers ahead after only three minutes but could only strike straight at Barking goalkeeper Emmanuel Olajide.
Danger man Hughes-Mason hit the underside of the bar only for Teniola to then hit the frame of the goal for the hosts - Olajide credited with the save.
And, having again been denied at the end of the first period, Hughes-Mason wasn't about to be halted again.
He picked up a through ball and, with a touch of good fortune, rounded Rhys Madden to tap into the net.
And that was how it stayed, with Aveley remaining in 22nd position.
