Aveley 0-1 AFC Sudbury
From Mill Field
Ryman One North
AVELEY pushed leaders AFC Sudbury all the way but were unable to take anything from their encounter at Mill Field.
The Millers lost 1-0 but would have been good value for a point.
They started well, with Liam Nash buzzing around but they were almost pegged back when Joe Maybanks slotted just wide of the mark.
Perry Dunn headed towards goal as the hosts hit back, with a goal line clearance keeping the game goalless.
Brian Okwera came close but the decisive move in the half came four minutes before the break, with Maybanks netting.
Aveley were looking for a route back into the match in the around period, with Nash coming close although Aveley were under pressure themselves as Craig Parker was kept at bay by home goalkeeper James Marrable.
A terrific save kept out Aveley's Michael Pindy as the game continued to ebb and flow, while Sudbury were the width of the crossbar from doubling their lead.
But Aveley could force the equaliser they so desperately needed.
Aveley: Marrable, Dunn, Conway, Coyne, Okwera, Edwards (Yala), Nash, Retkoceri (Asante), Pindy, Fallah (Tobon), Seymour
