AFC Hornchurch 1–2 Aveley
From the Hornchurch Arena
Ryman One North
AVELEY produced one of the results of the weekend as they won at promotion-hopefuls AFC Hornchurch for the first time in 16 years.
The Millers had Perry Dunn and Kyle Asante to thanks for the goals against the Urchins, both netting in the final 15 minutes to secure a memorable victory.
The irrepressible David Knight had given the home team the lead with 27 minutes on the clock, tapping home after Aveley goalkeeper James Marrable could only push a shot into his path.
Liam Nash and Andres Tobon tested the home goalkeeper as the half wore on, with Tambeson Eyong coming closest to stretching the advantage for the home side.
Into the second half, Tobon was superbly kept out by home stopper Sam Mott, with Knight hitting the bar at the other end.
But the Millers got the goal they deserved 15 minutes from time, as Abs Seymour’s header was met by the run of Dunn and he powered home the equaliser.
And the winner came four minutes from time. Asante, just off the bench having re-signed for the club from Witham Town, took a touch in the box and, with a deft back heel, turned the ball into the net.
Aveley: Marrable, Dunn, Olliwatimilehain (Oseyemi), Coyne, Okwera, Seymour, Nash, Retkoceri (Asante), Tobon (Pindy), Fallah, Conway
