Aveley 2-4 Brightlingsea Regent

From Mill Field

Ryman One North

AVELEY’S impressive recent form came to an end against a resurgent Brightlingsea Regent.

The Millers had won five of the last six matches but they struggled in the first-half against Brightlingsea Regent, who had struggled in the early weeks of the season.

Terry Rymer had an early chance to put the away side ahead but he was crowded out, although he was to open the scoring 10 minutes later.

Shamido Pedulu, a former home favourite, sent in a fierce cross and Rymer headed down into the corner of the net.

Billy Holland hit the crossbar as Aveley searched for a route back into the match but when the second goal came it was a hammer blow on the stroke of half-time.

An error by Leon Smith let in Phil Kelly and he delicately chipped the ball over Marrable to double Regent’s advantage.

The home team started the brighter after the break, with on-loan Concord Rangers keeper Ollie Bowles keeping out Tarryn Allarakhia but there was nothing he could do to keep out Aveley’s opening goal.

Pet Elbi’s 40 yard chip brought the crowd to their feet but it only lasted 60 seconds, as Josh Gould headed in unmarked.

Russell Malton added a fourth with four minutes to go, after he was given the freedom of the penalty area to strike home.

Substitute David Fallah got a late consolation, slotting home after his penalty was saved but it was a day to forget for Aveley.
