Aveley 1-1 Great Wakering Rovers

From Mill Field

Ryman One North

AVELEY earned a point against a resilient Great Wakering Rovers as they put their FA Cup disappointment behind them.

Knocked out of the competition on Saturday against a strong Havant & Waterlooville side, the Millers took to the pitch against Rovers and got off to a fine start as Abs Seymour netted after just four minutes.

But Jake Gordon levelled the match just 10 minutes later to take a share of the spoils.

It didn’t take long for Aveley to get into their stride, as Seymour broke through the Rovers backline and beat Adam Seal.

Minutes later it was almost 2-0, as Petrit Elbi dinked a fine effort over Seal but onto the crossbar.

And somewhat against the run of play Rovers drew level after 15 minutes. In Rovers’ first attack, Gordon, recently signed from Brightlingsea, struck a delightful shot over Marrable and into the net.

Ahmed Deen was kept out by Seal soon after but Rovers were growing into the game. Eljay Worrell put the ball into the net after Jacob Cleaver was denied, only for the offside flag to keep the scores level.

After the break, Gordon was denied a second goal by another offside flag, with Millers’ James Peagram and Rovers’ Jay Nash testing the goalkeepers.

Seymour shot wide late on but neither side found the decisive goal, with the points shared.
