Aveley 0-2 Havant & Waterlooville

From Mill Field

FA Cup third qualifying round

BRAVE Aveley are out of the FA Cup after they were beaten by Havant & Waterlooville at Mill Field.

The Millers were playing a side two divisions above them but they put on a fine display, creating a number of opportunities as they strived for a final qualifying round place for the first time in more than 30 years.

But it wasn’t to be, as goals from Marvin Morgan and Dan Strugnell ensured Havant’s progress.

The away side had a number of early half chances but failed to test James Marrable in the home goal.

Lanre Azees was proving to be the central Havant threat although the goal that came on the half-hour mark came after a strong spell from Aveley, in which Liam Nash threatened.

Morgan was allowed to turn by Ahmed Deen and he made no mistake, firing into the bottom corner.

Spencer Harrison was having a fine game at the heart of Aveley’s defence and he had to be alert to keep out Brian Stock.

Martin Patterson and Morgan had good chances to extend the advantage but Ryan Young had to be at his best to keep out Liam Nash at the other end.

David Fallah saw a penalty appeal turned down before Strugnell hit a second for Havant, and it was a simple finish heading home from a corner.

Paul Preston flicked a header against his own crossbar but it wasn’t to be for Aveley.
