AVELEY missed the chance to close to within a point of the play-offs as Romford took a point from their clash at Mill Field.
Danny Cossington sent a cross deep into the box that fooled home goalkeeper James Marrable before nestling in the far corner.
However, Aveley bit back just before half-time, when a fine cross from Paul Preston was converted by the well placed James Peagram.
It could have been even better for Peagram as the hosts won a penalty shortly before half-time. But away stopper Michael Gooch was equal to the penalty, which was sent down the middle by the striker.
A flurry of activity in the second-half failed to separate the sides, and the points were shared.
