Bury Town 5-1 Aveley

Ryman One North

AVELEY were comfortably beaten on the opening day of the season by Bury Town, despite going ahead inside 60 seconds.

The Millers had taken the initiative with less than a minute on the clock, as loan striker Liam Nash popped up to put the visitors in front.

Steve Willis had played a long ball out from the back and, after a misjudgement by the Bury goalkeeper, Nash tapped into the empty net.

Abs Seymour and a Pet Elbi double effort had come close to handing the visitors a two-goal advantage.

But with 26 minutes on the cross, the home team were level. Paul Preston slipped and Ollie Hughes scored, only for the same man to score again inside five minutes.

Justin Gardner’s side were still trailing at half-time, and were struggling to create clear-cut chances. Ahmed Deen was at fault this time, slipping up, and Ace Howell punished Aveley to slot home.

David Lampshire and Bradley Barber added more goals as the game came to a close, to hand Bury a slightly flattering score line.
