Aveley 4-4 Romford

From Mill Field

Ryman One North

AVELEY played out a remarkable 4-4 draw with struggling Romford.

The Millers fell behind early on before running into a 3-1 lead, with a brace from defender Spencer Harrison.

But Romford scored three goals to lead into the closing stages but Aveley clawed back an equaliser with only four minutes to go and take a point.

Romford took the lead after only six minutes, and it was Joe Scott that scored the goal.

The striker got up well but James Marrable will be credited with an own goal after the ball came off him before going over the line.

The away side were pressing but the Millers grabbed the equaliser through Harrison.

Ahmed Deen sent in a free-kick and the defender flicked a header into the net.

And three minutes later they had the lead.

Jack Stevenson sent in the free-kick this time, with new addition Robbie Farrell tapping across for the defender to double his tally.

Marrable denied former Thurrock striker Loui Hazelwood and that save looked to be vital when Petrit Elbi was fouled in the box and Stevenson tucked away the spot-kick.

Romford were given hope on the half-time whistle when Nick Reynolds fizzed home a superb drive, leaving Marrable with no chance.

Romford started the second-half well, with Reynolds and Scott denied by the home goalkeeper.

But nine minutes after the break, Hazelwood equalised from the spot, after Harrison was penalised for handling inside the area.

Scott was wide with an effort but it was the visitors who took the lead midway through the second period.

Jack Barry blasted a header at goal before they wasted several more efforts to extend their advantage.

And they were made to pay when Elbi met Deen’s cross with a fine header to take a share of the points.
