Aveley 3, Burnham Ramblers 0
AVELEY produced arguably their best performance of the season to convincingly beat Burnham Rambers 3-0 at Mill Field on Monday night.
Following defeat to Dereham on Saturday, Millers boss Justin Gardner rung the changes and gave a first start in six months to club captain Billy Holland who put in a man of the match performance.
But it was a controversial opener that set Aveley on their way to victory when Lee Weemes stabbed the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper for Kyle Asante to apply the final touch from what appeared to be a clear offside position.
It was no less than the Millers deserved though as Burnham were devoid of ideas up front and Aveley rubber stamped their authority in the second half with two goals in six minutes.
There was no controversy about the second as Aveley and Asante doubled their tally, with the striker latching onto Danny Cossington’s unfortunate flick on to score past a stagnant goalkeeper.
Then a corner from the right was flicked on at the near post by Glen Golby, falling to Jay Leader to smash home from close range.
Late on Burnham managed their first shot on target with a free kick, but it was comfortably saved by Stevie Sutton as Aveley kept just their fifth clean sheet of the season.
Aveley: Sutton; Kamara, Blake (Osifuwa 76'), Leader, Golby; Okwera, Holland (Stephenson, 80'), Weemes (Begg, 83'), Burnett, Korateng; Asante.
