Waltham Forest 1,

Aveley 2

AVELEY bounced back from their midweek defeat to Romford with a hard-fought 2-1 win at struggling Waltham Forest. Justin Gardner wanted a reaction from his players after the defeat at Ship Lane Wednesday night.

And he was immediately rewarded when Kyle Asante headed in from close range after three minutes. The lead didn’t last long however.

Oyetunji Oyewale slid one past Jack Giddens having beaten the offside trap to level it up after 17 minutes. But in first half stoppage time Nathan Koranteng unleashed a pile-driver from 25 yards.

The ball looped over Amadou Tangara and into the top corner to restore Aveley’s goal advantage. The second half meandered along with no real threat coming from either side, but Forest’s job of getting level again was dealt a blow when their captain, Leon Fisher, was given a straight red card for dissent.

After the linesman flagged for a foul on Koranteng by Daniel Laurent in the corner, Fisher could be heard saying “f**king cheap” which prompted the ref to show a red having possibly thought Fisher had said cheat. Asante had the Millers best chance to wrap it up late on but skied Petrit Elbi’s pull back, but Koranteng’s goal was enough to secure Aveley’s deserved victory.
