AVELEY 3, TAKELEY 2

PETRIT Elbi scored a last minute winner as Aveley beat Essex Senior league side Takeley to progress through to the second round of the county cup.

Tom Querry opened the scoring for Millers, curling home an exquisite free-kick in the tenth minute.

The visitors were back on terms on the hour mark though when Reece Dobson cashed in on a mistake by Jason Willis.

Minutes later, Shane Oakley scored from the spot but Aveley were again pegged back when James Amott headed home a long free-kick.

Aveley won the game in the 93rd minute when Elbi got on the end of a Sheldon Sellears free-kick.

Speaking to the Aveley club website after the game, Gardner said: “I'm not happy with the performance because I feel that, on paper, the players should have done better.

“My background is from the Essex Senior League, there are no mugs in that league. They're going to come here to try and get a scalp and I thought they did well.”

TILBURY 6, BASILDON UNITED 0

DOCKERS got back to winning ways, drubbing south Essex rivals Basildon at Chadfields to progress in the Essex cup.

Jack Stevenson put Tilbury in front after quarter of an hour, before centre-half Jake Pooley doubled the home side’s lead in the 23rd minute.

Ten minutes later, Martin Llewellyn put the home side three up and Sherwin Stanley made it 4-0 from the spot, six minutes later.

On the stroke of half-time, Tom Wraight ended a sorry half for Basildon when he made it 5-0.

The Bees have just appointed a new coaching staff following a manager merry-go-round. This was the first time that Chris Auger and joint player-manager John Hind were at the reigns.

After chastening first half, Basildon improved in the second half and only conceded a sixth goal late on, when Tilbury wide-man Tony Jacobs scored in the 84th minute.
