HOCKEY: THURROCK started out the better of the two teams creating plenty of early opportunities with Dan O’Shaughnessy and Jak Taylor missing from close range But they did themselves no favours when Thurrock gave away a silly short corner which Colchester converted to put the home side one ahead. Minutes later, great play by T’s was rewarded with a converted short corner when Declan Millane poached a Tommy Ing shot to make it 1-1.
The T's then turned the screw attacking the strong Colchester team. And they were rewarded with another Millane cool finish.
In the second half Colchester piled the pressure on for 35 minutes and Thurrock found themselves under the cosh.
But the solid defence of Andy Sargeant, Luke Danbrook, keeper Danny Hick and man-of-the-match Thomas Ing held strong to see the game out 1 -2. This week Thurrock face Brentwood at 11am at Palmer’s
