Pegasus Palmerians' tough start to Essex Two campaign continues

RUGBY: PEGASUS PALMERIANS’ tough start to their Essex Two campaign continued with a defeat.

The club are without a number of first team squad members due to injury and long term work commitments and this continued against Writtle with a total of 12 first XV members unavailable.

This left the club having to rely on the old guard and future by calling up a number of vets and handing a few first team debuts.

While the team huffed and puffed away all game with a dogged team display full of commitment, they just did not have enough to compete with a well drilled Writtle side.

However, this was until after a few positive words from captain Collier the team decided to go for broke and play with freedom that led to some great team tries from Greg Bramwell and two from new recruit Fraser Kidd playing at 10, with Bramwell adding two conversions.

A special mention must go to Ben Smith with a very solid defensive display and consistent attacking threat at full back, along with welcoming back to first team action after a very long absence, vets Pope, Cudby and the ever young Winch.

This week Peg travel to Newmarket in the Junior Vase after beating Broadlands in the preliminary round.
