Thurrock have too much for Crostyx

Thurrock 10

Crostyx 1

HOCKEY: THIS week’s Division Three SE game saw Thurrock square up to Crostyx. The borough team started the game with high hopes and aiming for the third win on the bounce. Thurrock’s effort was soon rewarded when an opposition defender was wrong footed for Jack Taylor to deflect past the advancing keeper.

Excellent play between Nick Stapelton and Dan O'Shaunessy led to some close shots, and Liam Birch was unfortunate to see his deflection going over the crossbar.

Thurrock claimed their second when Dan O'Shanessy dribbled past the defender to slap the ball in.

Thurrock claimed their next goal after a Birch shot rebounded to Steven Abbott who made no mistake.

The second half saw the return of defender Tommy Ing – back from injury. Crostyx found their attackers constantly cut out of the play and when their heads dropped Thurrock claimed four lucky goals by Abbott within 15 minutes. And Jenkins soon added to the borough goal tally after rounding the keeper and slotting the ball against the backboard.

And shortly afterwards, Crostyx exploited some sloppy Thurrock passing and this led to the loss of a clean sheet. Five minutes before the end of the game Abbot claiming his fifth of the game.
