Sturrock - Shrimpers were lucky to bag a point
11:29am Monday 8th October 2012 in Sport
SOUTHEND UNITED: PAUL Sturrock felt his Southend United side were fortunate to draw 2-2 with bottom-of-the-table Barnet at Roots Hall on Saturday, writes Chris Phillips.
Goals from Freddy Eastwood and Kevan Hurst saw Blues fight back to claim a share of the spoils.
But Sturrock was not happy with the performance.
“I thought we were lucky to get a point in the end and I’m really, really disappointed with how we played,” said the Blues boss.
“We should have been up and at them right from the start but the tempo was poor and so was the shape of the team.
“Players were doing what they wanted to do instead of doing what they were told and their decision-making was poor.
“It was summed up at the end when we had a player (Kevan Hurst) take a long-range free-kick with a three-step run up.
“Now that may be OK if you’re Ronaldo but this is League Two in England and our final shot or pass wasn’t good enough.”
Sturrock went into the game with just 15 senior players to pick from.
