Batsman and wicket keeper is handed new Essex contract

CRICKET: BEN Foakes admitted being surprised and delighted after being handed a new two-year contract by Essex.

The batsman and wicket-keeper is one of several players to be offered new terms at the County Ground.

Fellow youngsters Jaik Mickleburgh, Tom Westley and Tymal Mills have also been offered two-year deals, as have former skipper Mark Pettini and long-serving Graham Napier, who made his debut in 1997.

Fast bowler Maurice Chambers has signed a one-year extension, while England man Ravi Bopara has also signed a new one-year contract that will keep him at the club until September 2013.
