FA Trophy clash goes to Thurrock FC
10:22am Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Sport
Romford 1, Thurrock 3 FA TROPHY: TEN-MAN Fleet were the “away” side at Ship Lane as they faced ground share companions Romford in this FA Trophy 1st qualifying round on Saturday.
Despite a goal-less first half, Thurrock did enough in the second half to secure their passage into the second qualifying round.
But it was Romford who took the lead through Ryan Imbert who eventually got on the end of Lewis Francis’ free-kick.
Ten minutes later Thurrock’s new centre-half Matt Turpin headed home skipper Stuart Thurgood’s cross to draw Fleet level with their rivals.
Mark Onyemah was then given his marching orders after he brought down Ryan Imbert. But with nine minutes to play, Charlie Stimson gave Thurrock the lead.
As Romford pushed for an equaliser, Shamir Mullings and Leroy Griffiths exploited space that had opened up, with the latter sliding home to put the game beyond doubt.
Thurrock: Vine; Jones, Griffin, Turpin, Onyemah; Thurgood, Woodward, Perkins, Griffiths; Stimson, Orilonishe.
