Palmer's Tennis Club

TENNIS: PALMER’S Tennis Club held their annual girl’s tournament. Entry numbers were restricted to six players – although there are more girls participating in the club’s coaching programme.

A round robin box league was organised whereby the girls all played each other with every match being the best of three tie breaks to seven points. Therefore there was a minimum of five matches per player.

At the end of the round robin the top two players with the most amount of wins would contest the final to find the overall Palmer’s winner.

After some exhaustive tennis during which there was excellent rallying from all players, the finalists ended up being Kajal Chopra verses Ciara Meehan who both finished with four wins apiece.

The final format was then changed to the best of three short sets (first to four conventional games). Kajal and Ciara aquitted themselves admirally, whereby their rallies were long and drawn out with brilliant attacking strokes and defence from both girls, producing some fantastic eye catching tennis.

However due to her lack of unforced errors, experience and unwavering patience, Kajal Chopra won the match 4-2, 4-0 and consequently was crowned Palmer’s Girls Champion for 2012. Ciara was the sporting runner up. She showed tenacity and determination.

The whole day was a great success which shows the healthy state of girls tennis at Palmers.
