Defeat leaves Fleet in basement position

NON-LEAGUE: THURROCK endured a torrid second-half on the sunny southern coast leaving them rooted to the bottom of the Ryman Premier League.

Fleet took a first half lead before shipping four second-half goals to go down 5-1 at Whitehawk.

Lewis Perkins headed Mark Stimson’s side into the lead on 29 minutes. But within two minutes they had been pegged back. Whitehawk midfielder James Fraser latched onto a long-ball to net the first of a stunning hat-trick of goals.

He got his second two minutes into the second half and his third two minutes later. That was the point of no-return for Fleet.

And their misery was compounded when Whitehawk stopper Chris Winterton saved Charlie Stimson’s penalty, after Sami El-Abd had handled Stimson’s earlier shot.

Sam Gargan scored Whitehawk’s fourth in the 73rd minute with sub Jerhyl Hughes netting Hawks’ fifth in the 89th minute.

Thurrock have just one win in six now, conceding 15 goals and scoring just five.

This weekend Fleet are on the road as they travel to Horsham for the FA Cup second qualifying round cup clash
