PARALYMPICS: THE Paralympic Games ended last night and Westcliff goalball star Anna Sharkey is hoping her team-mates have left their mark.
Much has been made of the legacy of 2012 and Sharkey, a physiotherapist at Southend Hospital, is confident the performance of the women’s goalball team has raised the profile of the sport in the UK.
They finished second to silver medalists China in their group matches before losing to a heart-breaking golden goal in their quarter-final match with eventual bronze medalists Sweden.
“I think it is fabulous how the public have followed our sport and goalball is on the map now,” said 24-year-old Sharkey, who finished as GB’s leading scorer with seven goals."
