Matt and Dillian ready for fights
12:16pm Wednesday 29th August 2012 in Sport
THE successful Chadwell St Mary ABC has a busy September ahead with several of its members – now turned professional – in action.
Club chairperson Sindy Overy said “Mighty” Matt McCarthy is in training for a big pro match at the end of September.
Earlier this year McCarthy won his first pro bout. He defeated the experienced Bhecki Moyo, 38, who came into the ring with 43 fights under his belt. But the Islington fighter did not fare well in the York Hall battle.
Overy said: “McCarthy proved to be far too strong from the bell, causing Moyo to hold onto McCarthy throughout the bout and seeing McCarthy win by a unanimous points decision.”
Matt boxes again at York Hall on the September 23. He will fight at 66kg and he is currently training under Mark Bates out of the Stanford’s Spartans Gym.
Chadwell’s Dillian “The Villian” Whyte has had seven professional bouts with seven wins – four by knock out. Last month he KO’ed Gabor Farkas in the second round. Dillian has three bouts scheduled for the remainder of the year.
His last bout this year will be in December and he will be fighting for the vacant English title. But Dillian’s next bout is scheduled for September 15 at the York Hall.
He will climb into the ring against the former British Heavyweight Champion Mike Holden from Manchester. Tickets cost £35 and £60 for ringside seats.
Dillian has been out in Germany sparring against Vitali Klitschko – helping the champion prepare for his next defence of his world title. Sparring with his heavyweight world hero has been invaluable experience for Dillian.
Tickets to support either of the Chadwell St Mary boxers are available from Sindy Overy on 07857200730.
