South Weald 232-8 Belhus 2nd 218-9 CRICKET: SOUTH Weald won the toss and elected to bat in this 40 overs fixture at North Stifford on Sunday.
Attaining a good rate, Haddock’s 32, Kelton’s 62, Rob Hull’s 66 and Pyes, 34, had taken Weald to 217 for 4 from 34 overs.
Belhus were looking at the prospect of having to chase 270.
Enter Jack Plane, in a second spell he took 5 for 31 for overall figures of 5 for 40. Earlier, Mark Fogg bowled some brave leg spin picking up 1-34 from six overs.
Belhus set about the chase with zeal, 74 coming from the first 10 overs. Michael Cansdale then fell for 42 and wickets tumbled as Belhus found themselves at 114 for 5 in the 19th over, which included Jake Wolfe for 35.
Whilst the run rate was good there was a need for a decent stand. This came for the sixth wicket as Plane 20 and Scott Stonham 34 added 65 in good time.
But then four wickets fell for just 20 runs leaving Cliff Cansdale and Peter Clark needing 33 from 30 balls, three tight overs from Hull put paid to any winning ambitions and Belhus ended 14 runs short.
