GB call up hope for fighter
11:10am Sunday 27th May 2012 in Sport
BOXING: DANNY Dignum is hoping for a call-up to the GB boxing team after being crowned the British amateur middleweight champion, writes Paul Alton.
Dignum, who lives in Bowers Gifford, triumphed on points in the GB Championships in London on Sunday.
And now he is waiting to discover if he has done enough to start training with the British squad in Sheffield.
“They usually give boxers a three-month trial to get into the squad but sometimes boys go straight into the team,” said 21-year-old Dignum after beating Scottish champion Keiran Smith.
“I’m hoping because there aren’t many of us at my weight that I might go straight into the squad. But I’m just waiting to hear at the moment and am just ticking over in training at the moment.”
